Via Dinarica Kosovo - Stage 05

The stage from Boga to Haxhaj, spanning approximately 15 kilometers, is one of the most picturesque and engaging hikes along the Via Dinarica, consistently following the Kosovo-Montenegro border. Beginning in the village of Boga, the trail reaches Qafa e Dasmorëve, where hikers take the left path. From here, the moderately difficult trail begins with a gentle ascent, gradually revealing meadows where livestock graze amidst clusters of young pines. The landscape exudes a magical aura, guiding hikers through centuries-old trees shaped by time, meadows bursting with wildflowers, and untouched forests, creating a peaceful yet adventurous journey.

The initial section, dense with fir and pine trees, winds through shaded terrain featuring a mix of ascents and descents that require careful navigation. Recent improvements in trail marking and clearing have made the route easier to follow, though proper hiking footwear is essential due to the uneven and occasionally rocky terrain.

As hikers progress to the middle section, they are greeted by sweeping views of the surrounding forest, punctuated by open spaces that reveal rugged mountain panoramas. The trail transitions into more open landscapes, leading hikers along ridges near the Montenegro border. Here, stunning views of towering peaks dominate the horizon. The terrain varies, blending wide pastures, clusters of ancient pines, and fields of alpine flowers that add vibrant colors and enrich the scenic beauty.

The final stretch before reaching Haxhaj descends to a 4x4-accessible road, providing an easier path to the destination. The stage concludes at Shkambi A. Resort, where hikers are welcomed by a refreshing mountain spring renowned for its "exceptionally high pH levels"—an ideal spot to rejuvenate after a successful journey.

This stage showcases the mountainous beauty of western Kosovo and offers an unforgettable experience through diverse ecosystems and picturesque landscapes. Hikers are advised to carry sufficient water, a rain jacket, and basic navigation tools to ensure a safe and enjoyable trek.
