Via Dinarica Kosovo – Stage 10

Via Dinarica Kosovo - Stage 10

This stage of the Via Dinarica Kosovo begins at Gropa e Erenikut, an area populated by Molika pines, known for their pollen-reducing properties. The trail leads hikers through picturesque terrain towards Koshare, a destination rich in both natural beauty and historical significance.

The journey starts with a gentle ascent towards Qafa e Sylbicës, offering panoramic views of Maja e Gjeravicës, Kosovo’s highest peak at 2,656 meters, as well as Maja e Shkëlzenit in Albania. At Maja e Rrasës së Zogut, hikers can spot unique bird species that play a crucial role in the local ecosystem. The peak of Rrasa e Zogut serves as a sanctuary for these birds, lending the peak its name.

The trek continues through the mountains, passing around Ujëza and onward to Gjocaj, navigating lush meadows, green valleys, and numerous water springs. The landscape transitions from meadows to rocky paths, abundant with wild mountain fruits like blueberries and raspberries, as well as herds of livestock. This beautiful coexistence of wild nature and shepherd life is a defining feature of the stage. A mountain spring provides a refreshing stop before the final descent, where hikers are greeted by streams and waterfalls within the Kosharë Forest.

Koshare not only offers captivating natural beauty but also holds significant historical value. The war heroes' memorials in the area serve as poignant reminders of Kosovo's past, symbolizing pride and dignity for the future. Hikers should be mindful of the region’s historical context as they traverse the trail.

This stage of the Via Dinarica offers a perfect blend of nature and history, making it an ideal choice for adventurers seeking both physical challenge and a deeper connection with Kosovo’s landscape and heritage.
